Danby Microwaves Reviews

Reserve: The "Wasteland"

The reserve and its biodiversity
Fallow land lies between the No. 3 Big Bing Bush, "said Bing XVIII, and the residence of the Court. This small
wasteland results actually operating a small heap in the mid 80s. This resulted in a flat surface, consisting of a schist pretty poor. This field has not been programmed for reforestation at the time, so that the vegetation there is imposed is essentially composed of pioneer species of poor soil or ruderal species.
A planting of woody species was conducted in the late 90s, along the residence of the Court, to form a barrier between this subdivision and the proposed development XVIII of the heap. This plantation was conducted online with a few meters from the houses of residence, very localized.
The vegetation of the area is essentially composed of herbaceous species. However, many shrubs are found scattered in the wasteland. The east side is forested (plantation and natural afforestation).

The area of the moor is 2.53 hectares. Its shape is generally rectangular.
be found in the north of the moor, meadow now abandoned. The eastern borders of the moor the residence of the Court. In the south, is traditionally an agricultural land occupied by a rotation wheat - corn. Along the west side, there is a gap wooded area near the heap of XVIII. Description of biotope

:
mapping zonation of vegetation on the moor
Ø Woodland (color coded green on the map)
Ø Neighbourhood Area (color code blue on the map)
Ø Roncier (color code red plan)
Ø Zone with little herbaceous grasses (color code orange on the map)
Ø Zone herbaceous dominated by grasses (color code gray on the map)

The vegetation of the fallow land is mainly low vegetation dominated by grasses. This
low vegetation and open up the vast wealth of this area. Indeed there are today less and less comparable ecosystems in our region.

While most of the vegetation is low and open, there are still a small wooded area on eastern edge of the wasteland. This zone results from a plantation made late 90. Some important brambles are also scattered in this area. The wasteland is also
surrounded by a cordon of trees constituting a real belt.
The whole tree vegetation offers considerable diversity to the area by bringing food and shelter for many animal species (birds, insects, mammals, ...).

Among the grass areas are found two zonations, one with a low floristic diversity very important and the other much higher where there are essentially only one species of grass invasive behavior significantly: the Calamagrostis sp .

Management by the Board of Management Terrils Borinage is to preserve the open character of the area while working to develop its biodiversity.
We therefore maintain the woody vegetation at a level acceptable and compatible with the objectives of the open area around and within the moor. Our goal is to preserve enough trees and shrubs to provide the functions of shelter and food for wildlife, while maintaining a sufficient level to avoid flooding the zone.

management is also conducted several annual mowing in the open area. In this way we try contain the beaches of Calamagrostis, so that this species completely dominates the area and allow a greater diversity of herbaceous flora. By mowing, we also maintain poor soil which increases the possibilities for diversification of the flora.
